چکیده

The plant-microbial interactions in the assisted bioremediation of a petroleum hydrocarbon-polluted soil after bioaugmentation with Pleurotus tuberregium were investigated. Top soils collected from fallow plot on campus University Benin, Nigeria. A list all weeds growing was taken, bid to determine seeds bank (Table 2). then polluted different concentrations waste engine oil (1.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0% w/w soil) weight basis. left for five months (SPi). unpolluted (0 %) designated as control experiment. Result shows that concentration Mn prior augmentation experiment (5MAP) 28.5mg/kg against 29.6mg/kg 30.8 mg/kg weeded unweeded bioaugmented treatments respectively. There significant reductions content Zn at 10 MAA. buckets ranged 12.2 – 36.9 compared 10.6 weeds. Concentration Ni 2.52 4.12mg/kg 5 MAP 0.72 1.15 0.07 0.13mg/kg bioaugmentation. Hydrocarbon degrading bacteria count SP0 1.81 x105 cfu/g presence weed (WW) 1.65 absence (NW) whereas SPA0 2.65 2.04 (NW). total fungi SP5 1.64 0.80 no pollution even SPA5 2.08 1.22 ten month (10MAB) most dominant Clostridium sp. while less Bacillus subtilis. For Aspergillus niger flavus least.

Understanding Plant-Microbe Interactions for Phytoremediation of Petroleum-Polluted Soil

Plant-microbe interactions are considered to be important processes determining the efficiency of phytoremediation of petroleum pollution, however relatively little is known about how these interactions are influenced by petroleum pollution. In this experimental study using a microcosm approach, we examined how plant ecophysiological traits, soil nutrients and microbial activities were influenc...

Petroleum Hydrocarbon Biodegradability in Soil – Implications for Bioremediation

The development of human civilization throughout history has led to growing disruption of the natural balance and the occurrence of different types of pollution. The world depends on oil, and the use of oil as fuel has led to intensive economic development worldwide. The great need for this energy source has led to the gradual exhaustion of natural oil reserves. However, mankind will witness th...

Microbial and Plant-Assisted Bioremediation of Heavy Metal Polluted Environments: A Review

Environmental pollution from hazardous waste materials, organic pollutants and heavy metals, has adversely affected the natural ecosystem to the detriment of man. These pollutants arise from anthropogenic sources as well as natural disasters such as hurricanes and volcanic eruptions. Toxic metals could accumulate in agricultural soils and get into the food chain, thereby becoming a major threat...

Bioaugmentation as a soil bioremediation approach.

The debate over the efficacy of bioaugmentation rages on, with research continuing to demonstrate that its advantages for soil bioremediation are difficult to predict; however, when it works, the results are often very encouraging. The difficulties arise from, among others, the diversity of the microorganisms used, environmental heterogeneity, and variations in the influence of critical paramet...

Improvement of petroleum hydrocarbon remediation using the oat plant in the soil treated by poultry manure

This greenhouse experiment aimed to investigate the effects of poultry manure (PM) on the growth of oat plant (Avena sativa) and removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) from soil. The treatments consisted of three TPH levels (4%, 6%, and 8% w/w) and two PM levels (zero and 1%) at three replications. According to the findings, shoot height, number of leaves, and the fresh and dry...
